Where did the idea for the story come from?

I wrote Fabricated, because I wanted to tell a story about the complexities of being in law enforcement, about wrongful incarceration and the lingering effects of death violations [murder] to those who survive.

Give a quote from the books, one that says little but speaks volumes.

For once, I’d like Lady Luck to stop giving me the bad shit.

Give a short summary of what the book is about.

My latest work, Fabricated: A Cybil Lewis SF Mystery, is the next installment in my Cybil Lewis SF Mystery series. Each novel is a standalone case, so they do not have to be read in order.

Cybil follows her own moral compass, but she definitely doesn’t work alone. She has a partner, Jane, and now Kimmila. In the future, the District, the former capital, District of Columbia, has become its own territory. In fact, the entire country has divided into territories with their own governing practices, laws, etc.

Agents from the Midwest Territory invite Cybil to help them locate a missing violator [prisoner]. Cybil reluctantly accepts, but as she investigates, she discovers all is not what it seems, and soon she’s swept up in a whirlwind of conspiracy, betrayal and death violations [murder].

What genre is it?

Science Fiction-Mystery

How many pages is it?

352 pages

Why do you think the readers will want to read it?

Readers will want to read Fabricated because it offers a unique point of view, written by a woman when women’s voices are struggling to be heard. Cybil is a private inspector in the District, an area that was once the District of Columbia. Set against the backdrop of high technology and devalued human lives, Cybil is a beacon of truth in the murky waters of politics.

Where are you located?

South Carolina, United States

Description

Cybil Lewis, a private inspector in futuristic D.C., now The District, begrudgingly works with the Territory Alliance agents to track down an escaped violator, Nico Mars.

Almost immediately, Cybil is tossed into the District’s gritty underbelly of political ambition, drugs, and betrayal. This case will take her and Jane deep into the reaches of The District’s notorious Sector 12, where life is cheap and currency is king. When her investigation leads back to those responsible for protecting citizens, Cybil discovers she’s in danger.

She’s reminded once again that everything can be fabricated.

Excerpt

I saw only legs.

Even from this distance, I noticed the body laid face up, on its back. As I followed Daniel into the apartment, dressed in our protective white jumpsuits and masks, I couldn’t help but notice the blood. It decorated the foyer’s walls and the telemonitor hanging a short distance in.

Despite the mask, the odor made my throat close. Nothing smelled like death in the summer. The temperature control unit appeared to have failed. The floor complained as people fanned out across the living room. The space, once vibrant and filled to the ceiling with laughter and cries, hugs and fights, loud conversations and whispered secrets, had become a tomb marred by death and the lingering odor of wet pennies.

“Damn.” Daniel rubbed his face, dislodging his mask. He shoved it back into place. “Someone turned off the environmental control units.”

“They knew what they were doing.” I scanned the room.

  1. This looks good but I am unable to enter the contest as the form does not work for me no matter how many times I follow the instructions.
