Review of Invaders by Nick Clausen

A Cracking Good Read!

Invaders by Nick Clauson.

Alien Invasion series, book one.

Rating: 5 Stars

I must admit that after reading the description for this story on a Facebook advert, it didn’t draw me in. A weak, sick main protagonist didn’t appeal to me.

I then clicked onto the comments and there were many. The majority praised the series. As it was in KU, I gave it a go anyway because ai’ve read this author before.

I’m glad I did. It was intriguing at first because I couldn’t guess

where it would go. That got me turning the pages to find out more.

When I finally understood what was happening, I was completely drawn in. This is not your usual alien invasion story, and although I like those a lot, this was different. Tim, our protagonist is no longer a weak man, far from it.

Mr Clauson introduces several new characters and the chapters are devoted to them. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

It’s a three book series, which is I like. Not too big and not too small. It’s also the well under 300 pages read. I shall be moving on to the second instalment, unfortunately book three is not out until May. I shall have to be patient, but I’m not. I know I’ll be ready to read the conclusion straight away.

This book is part of a series. The storyline and excellent plot is this:

A strange, glowing object lands in the forest. Tim is the only one who sees it. Venturing out to investigate, he discovers animals infected with a mysterious black growth. When he returns to his cabin, he realizes the horrifying truth: whatever disease the object brought to Earth, Tim has caught it too.

Now begins a living nightmare. Tim grows sicker, succumbs to the illness and dies—only to awaken again the next morning.

But something is wrong. Tim is no longer fully human. He’s transforming into something else. Something dangerous …

Invaders offers a chilling blend of sci-fi horror and post-apocalyptic suspense. With its gripping tale of alien invasion and unsettling mutations, this story will appeal to fans of Independence Day, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and Stephen King’s Dreamcatcher and The Tommyknockers. A compelling start to a series that explores survival, humanity, and the fear of the unknown.

My Favourite Bits

She’s about to leave, when Sylvia goes on, “Whatever you did to my son, I’m not forgiving you. You know that, right?”

Veronica turns back around. Sylvia still isn’t looking at her as she goes on. “Even if he gets better, I’m holding you responsible. And I’m like an elephant …” She taps her temple with a finger. “I never forget.”

Yet he can’t fully convince himself. Pia’s an asshole for sure, but his mother once told him, “Be kind to those you meet, because everyone is fighting a battle.” It was a quote by a Greek philosopher, and Felix figures it probably applies even to Pia.

“Listen!” she shrieks—giving them a couple of seconds to quiet down. Her blank eyes scan the faces, her upper lip quivers. She’s clearly on edge and won’t hesitate to kill anyone else at the slightest sign of resistance. “You all stay seated, and you get to live,” she goes on. “Anyone gets up or fights back, and I will set off the bomb and kill all of you.” She lets the message sink in before continuing. “No one else needs to die. I’ve instructed the pilot to land the plane as planned. Don’t fight me, and you will get back down safe and sound.”

I also read these series from the same author. they were really great, until they got silly. I didn’t like where the story was going and stopped reading after book three.
