A review of the TV series Lost in Space

I love films and boxsets, and am expanding my reviews to include them too.

After crash-landing on an alien planet, the Robinson family fight against all odds to survive and escape, but they’re surrounded by hidden dangers.

I watched the original back in the sixties, but don’t remember that much about it. When this remake arrived in 2018. It didn’t appeal much. The other was comedic and I’m not a fan any more.

How wrong was I? One day while looking for something to watch on Netflix, I found myself watching the trailer. Immediately, I was hooked. The storylines were terrific and the spaceships, planets, and creatures were amazing.

I loved the Robinson family. Mum and Dad were on the point of separation when they had to leave earth. The eldest daughter was not a full sibling, and we later learned, she came from a previous relationship. The other two, a teenage daughter amd a young boy under ten had strong personalities that endeared me to them.

But it was the relationship of the boy, Will and the robot that was the most intriguing and fascinating.

After wandering off, he comes across a crashed alien spacecraft and ended up finding a robot in two halves. After putting him together again, he gains a faithful companion. Of course it’s more complex than that.

It ran for three series and I more or less binged them over a few weeks. The plots were ingenious and the acting, and characterisation was magic.

Overall, if you love digital effects and science fiction, you’ll love this too,

  1. I also LOVED Lost in Space as a kid. This remake is one of the best I’ve seen. The same but so different from the original. I didn’t like that they made the mad scientist female, but she fit the part so well, I totally forgot about my dislike once I really got into the series.
