Introducing Joni Martins
Where did the idea for the story come from?
That’s a good question and I don’t really know. One day, I was driving on the motorway to work when the idea just popped into my head. I just thought, what if you woke up, but didn’t actually wake up. You go about your day and don’t know why things seem different than usual. The start of the book just ran through my head and that’s where I then went from. It’s my next favourite book after Diary of a Female GP that I’ve written and published so far.
Give a quote from the books, one that says little but speaks volumes.
As I walked around the bed, the sense of trepidation increased. Perhaps I didn’t want to discover the answer to the questions after all. What if I preferred not to find out why Alicia was so distraught?
Alicia had thrown herself on top of the duvet once more, hitting her fists repeatedly and screaming.
“Why? Why? Why? No, no, no, no, noooo! You can’t do this to me! Nooo!”
Again, she raised herself and started rocking something on the bed. I tried to get a further look at what was in Alicia’s arms against my better judgement. What was she shaking? What had her this upset?
No, this couldn’t be right. I spun my gaze away from the scene facing me and shifted back again. No, the sight remained unchanged. This was wrong. This felt unreal. Alicia shook … me? No, that was impossible. Once more, I closed my eyes, keeping them shut for a moment. No, the image presented to me stood true. I stared at myself. Yes, here waved my arm and hand as I wiggled them in front of my face, and I also looked at the clothes on my body. But then, I peered at the version of me in Alicia’s arms, too. And, yes, that was me too. What was going on?
Give a short summary of what the book is about.

It’s not until his wife screams at lunchtime that Daryll finds out the truth. But what really happened? And why? Will his thirst to find out the truth place his family in danger?

Why do you think the readers will want to read it?
I think this review says it all:
This is a sweet and heartwarming story. It’s about enduring love and is wholesome and warm and—family!
The writing is beautiful, and the storytelling is imbued with authenticity. For any child to have such a deep blanket of love from their parents is wonderful. From the moment Daryll ‘wakes up’ and has his usual breakfast with his young daughter, you know what’s coming, and while it’s a story about darkness and death, the love surrounding the characters shines through and washes the story in sunshine.
The book says, that wherever you are in life, it’s never too late to wake up to new experiences and transformation. Daryll sticks around to unravel the mystery and we ride with him to the conclusion.
While Diary of a GP is my favourite book by this author. Wake-Up Call is a close second. I enjoyed it very much. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
