My Review of The Day the Earth Turned – Autumn by Chantelle Atkins

I read and reviewed the first book, The Day the Earth Turned – Summer as an ARC before it was released. I absolutely loved it and my favourite read of 2023 so far.

The Day the Earth Turned, Autumn is also an advanced reader copy which I read well before the release the date was revealed.

The question about second books is generally whether they are as good as the first. The answer is a resounding YES! The story is about two groups of teenagers who fight to survive the elements after most of the adults have died. The earth has turned and nature is taking back ownership of the planet.

We catch up on how they are managing and getting along. But now, a third group is introduced, and this one is different. It’s run by one of the few adults left alive.

Oh my goodness, I loved this book. I loved the first, and I’m pretty sure I’ll the love the third. That will come out in the Winter, and I can’t wait to get my hands on it.

Now there was one bit I didn’t like. One of the groups resorted to eating dogs. Being a dog lover, I found this particular difficult. But I can understand why. It’s a young adult adult novel, so I knew it would be nothing graphic, and it wasn’t.

Overall, this is a brilliantly thought out, written, and plotted story. It is post apocalyptic, but very different from anything I’ve read before. It’s clever because there’s an element of truth behind the fiction with climate change being a hot topic. This story plays on that, takes elements of what we have done to the earth and flipped it onto it’s head.

This book and series so far, gets a full five stars. I highly recommend it.
