Where did the idea for the story come from?

I wanted to write a story about time travel. I sat down with a pen and paper to literally see where it took me. The result was a short story called In Distant Time. I then rewrote it into a novella and it bears little resemblance to those first small steps.

Give a quote from the books, one that says little but speaks volumes.

With every nerve in my body on fire, my heart thudded uncontrollably, and I could hardly breathe. I was about to run into the open when a soldier aimed a gun at a man on his knees, stopping me dead in my tracks.

Give a short summary of what the book is about.

Description

Time travel can be a useful resource, but what if something unexpected goes wrong?

In the year 3236, the government uses time travel to document the mistakes of the past. It’s a way to gain power in the present by learning from history.

During a leap back to WWII, Astro-archeologist Julie finds her safe projection hasn’t gone as planned. Instead of the ethereal presence she’s supposed to be, she’s actually visible. What will that mean when she stumbles upon a small village being raided by German soldiers?

Faced with death all around her, Julie has to find her way back to the future. But when she returns, will she be the same person she was? Or will the paradoxes of time travel change her life forever?

Excerpt

“She’s barely conscious,” Jason muttered in a concerned tone. “What the hell went wrong? Where’s she been?”

“I don’t know,” Marcus, our engineer, replied from beside us.  “Perhaps reviewing the tape or Jules’ explanation will give us answers.”

I bounced down the corridor in Ricardo’s arms, feeling disconnected from the conversation.  The skin on my face felt tight, as if it had lost its moisture, and tears threatened.  However, that took more than I had to give.

A displacement like this had never happened before. Ricardo and I were both seasoned travellers, and neither of us experienced anything like this.  The anomaly was more cause for concern than my response to it, but even more reason for me to pull myself together.
