The ground shuddered at her feet as the flames consumed her home.
A new life, a new identity, whether she liked it or not, Sharna Cauldwell leaves the only family she’s ever known, unsure of where she will end up. But she’s learned a valuable lesson; fairy tales were reserved for books and movies, not real life.
Jerrod, the eldest son of a local mob boss, has a secret and in his profession, secrets can be dangerous; especially those unknown to his own family, then his younger brother sticks his nose in where it’s not wanted, risking all their lives.
Will they survive? Will romance blossom and deliver them the happily ever after they deserve? Or will the secrets lead them to their graves!
Excerpt
Tears slid over my cheeks, dripping off my chin. My hands shaking at the sight of the flames engulfing my home. Why me? I was a nobody! I didn’t want to disappear and start over.
Here I was slouched in the backseat of a black sedan, my head turned towards my once beautiful home. The explosion had made me gasp for breath when it blew up, the ground shuddering. I watched some debris fall back to the ground, flames licking over what was left.
All my belongings were gone in an instant, engulfed by the fire. My body shook with grief at the end of the only life I knew. Whether I liked it or not, I was starting over.
“Why me?” I cried to the solemn man sitting in the driver’s seat in front of me.
He didn’t reply.
